Berlin/Cologne. Shocked and infinitely saddened, the management of the Interzero Group announces that Markus Müller-Drexel, CEO of Interseroh+ GmbH and Managing Director of Interzero Holding, died completely unexpectedly on the morning of January 18 in a Berlin hospital.
“The news of Markus Müller-Drexel’s death is an incredible shock,” said Dr. Axel Schweitzer, Chairman and shareholder of the Interzero Group. “With him, we are losing a key figure in our company, a pioneer of packaging recycling in Germany, a wise advisor. And above all, I am losing a friend. My thoughts are with his wife Heike, his son Dominik and the entire family.”
“MMD”, as he was known not only within the company but also in the industry because of his long name, was with the company for over 30 years and played a key role in building up and managing the licensing business. From 1992 to 1997, he headed the southern branch of the then INTERSEROH Dienstleistungs GmbH in Munich. In 1997, Müller-Drexel moved to the headquarters in Cologne, where he took over the management of the operational business. On May 1, 2002, Markus Müller-Drexel was appointed Managing Director of INTERSEROH Dienstleistungs GmbH. From 2016, he also took over the role of CEO of ALBA Services Holding.
As founding managing director of Interseroh+, he will be translating his idea of a “recycling alliance” into reality from January 2022 – a connection of companies that want more than just to fulfill the licensing obligations for packaging, but actually want to close the raw material cycles. Since August 2023, Müller-Drexel has also been one of the managing directors of Interzero Holding GmbH & Co. KG, the management company of the entire Interzero Group.
Markus Müller-Drexel was considered one of the best experts and most honest managers in the licensing business. He was involved in numerous committees, including as a member of the executive board of the Federal Association of German Waste Management and Water Management (BDE), as a member of the board of trustees of the Climate Economy Foundation and as chairman of the Committee for Environment and Energy of the Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
The employees of the entire Interzero Group are very sad. They are losing a great colleague and fair manager.
