Sustainability in the focus of corporate strategy

For Interzero, sustainability is the focus of its corporate strategy. We assume responsibility in all areas of our business – for our customers and employees as well as for the environment and society.

Vision & mission: a future without waste

With our vision of a future without waste, guided by our sustainability strategy, we are developing new concepts for a comprehensive circular economy. In doing so, we always pursue our mission: as a leading partner for customers in the circular economy, in every industry, we close loops, avoid waste and conserve resources by developing customized, integrated environmental solutions.

Successful transformation processes thrive on innovation. We test every idea that brings us closer to closed loops - even at the risk of failure. This is the only way to create the disruptive changes that our linear economic system needs.

We help our clients professionalize their sustainable practices and integrate sustainability into their reporting processes. To achieve this, we are fully exploiting the digitalization potential of our services.

To extend the life of products, we are entering new markets and expanding the business models developed for them in such a way that we realize annual sales growth with them.

To enable industry and commerce to use resources more efficiently than before, we are working with our customers to develop new design-for-recycling approaches.

In our view, only the use of resources that does not allow any waste is sustainable. That's why we look for new ways to close loops every day.

To rid the planet of plastic waste in the long term, we are developing new upcycling solutions for plastics every year. Furthermore, we are increasing the quality and quantities of secondary raw materials that we produce from plastic waste and offer to industry for further processing.

To limit global warming to below 2 degrees, global resource consumption must be decoupled from economic growth. To this end, we are closing new recycling and logistics loops with which we aim to save at least 5 million metric tons of raw materials and 800,000 metric tons ofCO2 per year.

In order to significantly reduce the per capita environmental impact of waste generation, particularly in cities, we are committed to a holistic approach to waste avoidance and a significant increase in material recycling rates.

Our employees and their skills are the core of our competence as an environmental service provider. Keeping them working at their best for our customers every day requires a consistent commitment to their health, motivation and development.

We want to promote the physical and mental health of our employees and reduce our sickness, accident and fluctuation rates to below the industry average. To this end, we create a safe, value-oriented, innovative and development-promoting working environment.

We want the full and effective participation of all - regardless of age, gender, origin, religion or social status - to become a reality at all levels of decision-making. That is why we ensure the greatest possible equality of opportunity for all (potential) employees in our company.

The development of a comprehensive circular economy requires that we share our experience and knowledge - not only with our customers, but in all areas of business and society. This is the only way we can adequately communicate the ecological and economic benefits of efficient closed-loop management.

We see it as our task to promote sustainable lifestyles and consumption habits. As an intermediary, we therefore ensure that knowledge about the circular economy is built up in education, politics, business and society.

We want to develop and (internationally) scale cross-industry approaches and standards for circular economy solutions. To achieve this, we work closely with our partners, stakeholders, suppliers and customers.

At the same time, we create scope for our employees to participate in appropriate initiatives to develop circular economy solutions.

Our climate strategy: 50 percent reduction in site emissions by 2025

Through our services, our customers save greenhouse gas emissions and resources. But our own business activities also generate CO2 emissions. Our aim is to cut site emissions and thus make our contribution to the climate target agreed at the UN Climate Change Conference in 2015 – limiting global warming to well below two degrees. To this end, we design our own processes and activities to be as resource-saving and efficient as possible. Based on the calculation of our corporate carbon footprint, we have formulated our climate strategy and specific targets:

  • 50 percent reduction in site emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 2025
  • Continuous search for optimization potential in logistics and work on a target for reducing the resulting emissions
  • Annual savings of at least 5.5 million metric tons of resources and 800,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalents through own services
