The legislator has grouped the “obligated parties” under the term “manufacturer”. Accordingly, a producer within the meaning of the WEEE Ordinance is one who produces electrical and electronic equipment:
- manufactures and sells under its brand name (manufacturer).
- resells under its brand name – unless the manufacturer’s brand name is affixed to the device in accordance with a) (dealer, distributor, marketer).
- imports goods into Austria on a commercial basis (importer).
- exports commercially for supply to final consumers (exporter).
All obligated parties must ensure that the electrical equipment they put into circulation is taken back and treated or recycled in accordance with the ordinance.
A device is an electrical or electronic device if it is required for proper operation:
- electric current or electromagnetic fields is needed and
- for operation with max. 1000 volts alternating voltage or 1500 volts direct voltage is designed and
- falls under the equipment categories listed in Annex 1 of the WEEE Ordinance and
- is not part of another device type.
Electrical and electronic equipment that qualifies as waste under AWG 2002, including all components, subassemblies and consumables that are part of the product at the time of discard.
- electrical and electronic equipment intended for private households,
- Electrical and electronic equipment that is comparable to WEEE from private households due to its type and quantity or with regard to its possible accumulation (dual use).
- ATTENTION: All other devices according to the WEEE Ordinance are those for “commercial purposes”.

Collection and recycling of waste electrical equipment made easy – with Interzero Austria
Transfer your take-back and recovery obligations under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Ordinance in Austria to Interzero Austria and thus benefit from our many years of experience.
Anyone who puts electrical equipment into circulation in Austria or imports it into Austria for the purpose of their own activities (distributor) is also responsible for ensuring that the WEEE is collected, recycled or sent for treatment in Austria. This is what the legislator has prescribed in the Ordinance on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EAG-VO). In this context, the legislator has grouped the “obligated parties” under the term “manufacturer”.
Accordingly, a producer within the meaning of the WEEE Ordinance is anyone who produces electrical or electronic equipment:
a) manufactures and sells under its brand name (manufacturer)

All obligated parties must ensure that the electrical appliances they put into circulation (large appliances, small electrical appliances, refrigerators and freezers, display screen and picture tube equipment, gas discharge lamps, dual-use equipment) are taken back and treated or recycled in accordance with the ordinance. Interzero Austria, as a household and commercial system, assumes for you the obligations arising from the Waste Electrical Equipment Ordinance for the electrical equipment you place on the market.
