Securing the future through a circular economy: Recycling is an effective lever for reducing earth pollution and achieving the European climate neutrality targets. Together with customers and partners, Interzero is therefore already developing successful business models for the circular economy of tomorrow. But how can we get even more companies to join in? Last but not least, we focus on information and education: with the study “resources SAVED by recycling” we, as Europe’s leading recycling service provider, regularly highlight the specific environmental benefits of recycling.
The balance sheet for 2024 is also clear: Recycling works. According to calculations by the Fraunhofer Institute UMSICHT, Interzero recycled around 1.94 million tons of recyclable materials in the cycle – and thus avoided the extraction of 8.09 million tons of primary resources avoided. This corresponds to the weight of more than four million SUVs. At the same time, these activities 1.04 million tons of CO₂ equivalents saved – comparable to the emissions of 3.2 million car journeys between Warsaw and Valencia.
Plastic recycling is particularly effective. Plastics and lightweight packaging account for almost half of the recycled materials – they make up 54% of the resource savings and 62% of the CO₂ reduction.
“The figures confirm our commitment to modern plastics recycling and spur us on to continue improving the recycling of packaging waste from the Yellow Bag in particular,” says Jan Kroker, CEO of the Interzero Group.
Another remarkable effect: according to the Global Footprint Network, Interzero and its customers were able to postpone Earth Overshoot Day 2025 by over 10 minutes. A strong sign of the impact smart circular economy has on global environmental goals.
