+++ Dr. Axel Schweitzer forms new group of companies +++ Focus on genuine closed-loop solutions instead of linear recycling chains

Berlin/Cologne. Interzero is the name of a new international group of companies from Germany. The name Interzero stands for innovative, sustainable and customized recycling and loop management. Interzero’s vision is a world without waste. The return of important recyclable materials and the use of recycled raw materials provide customers with significant ecological and economic benefits. In addition to meeting increasingly stringent government regulations on resource conservation, they also offer them clear added value, both in industry-oriented and end-user-focused markets. And they secure access to important raw materials.

New era as an independent company

“Our upcoming departure from the ALBA Group marks the beginning of a new era for us as an independent company committed to a ‘world without waste,'” said Dr. Axel Schweitzer, shareholder and chairman of Interzero. “Our new name explains exactly what we do: We offer our zero waste solutions internationally to transition from a linear to a circular economy – and we call it Interzero for short.”

Under the leadership of Dr. Axel Schweitzer, Interzero is re-forming; building on the core of the Interseroh Group. Interzero will have around 2,000 employees in 10 European countries after the complete reorganization. The company is fully focused on the “circular economy” and generates sales of around one billion euros in its current structure.

“The founding of Interzero, headquartered in Cologne, Germany, is based on more than 30 years of experience of our employees and executives in the circular economy, as well as long-standing customer relationships in many different industries – from construction, consumer goods, and food retail to food and automotive manufacturing,” said Dr. Schweitzer. “This broad positioning, combined with a strong focus on digital platforms and related innovations, makes all the difference for our customers. With our setup targeting know-how and process design, which is new for the industry, we still have a lot of plans.”

Clearly defined core competencies

The group of companies consists of three strategic pillars:

The digitalization of recycling processes and the provision of digital platforms as well as a nationwide network of service, disposal and recycling partners complement Interzero’s offering.

Innovation, research and development as a service for customers

Another overarching element of Interzero is innovation and research performance. The Competence Center for Plastics Recycling in Maribor, Slovenia, is the only government-accredited research facility in the EU specializing in the development and analysis of recycled plastics. The competence center is thus setting standards throughout Europe in the implementation of uniform quality standards and helping Interzero’s customers to develop environmentally friendly packaging and products from recycled materials. In Maribor, formulations are created for recycled plastics with the properties required by the customer. Experts from Interzero not only examine the materials and design of the packaging, but also, for example, its practical sortability. Positive results are attested by the “Made for Recycling Interseroh+” label that companies are allowed to print on their packaging as a decision-making aid for consumers. Interseroh+ developed this test method together with the bifa Umweltinstitut, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV tested and confirmed it.

Strong tailwind from business and society

“With our new setup, we at Interzero are the partner for our customers to manage recycling processes with smart solutions and to transfer linear structures into raw material cycles. Our colleagues are committed to our customers’ sustainability goals with first-class know-how and great dedication. We feel a strong tailwind from business and society for our “zero waste solutions”. This is an excellent basis and the right time to consistently realize our vision of a world without waste,” said Dr. Schweitzer.
